We've done it again. Five of us took on the Fishriver Canyon on the 6th of May 2009.
DAY 1 : As before day one with the dawn hill is a leg eater. We made it to the bottom in just under three hours. The boulder hopping for the rest of the day wasn't to bad. We slept on the 10km mark as per the map.
DAY 2 : Starting at 07h00 SA time after breakfast gave us a good morning walk at a steady pace and well deserved rest at the hot water spring made the day. We did about 12km for the day.
DAY 3 : As before we started at 07h00 and with the boulders out of the way we made good time and distance for the morning. A big fright came in the form of a small cobra that was crossing our path and made us realize that we are in nature and we are in their back yard. After the snake we were greeted by five wild horses staring at us from a distance.
DAY 4 : For one of the members in our group this was he hardest day as blisters set in on all her toes and on her heels. The reason, the right shoes but the wrong size. River crossing became fun as I picky backed her over the water to keep her feet from getting wet. I haven't done that in years. Lots of comments were made by all the members and a lot of photos were taken.
DAY 5 : We entered Ai-Ais as planned on the dot 12h00. This time the hot water did not win as a cold beer took the honours. We spend the rest of the day at Ai-Ais and mostly in the hot water and left for Cape Town early the next morning.
One of the best hikes I've had so far due to the two teenagers that were part of the group. I didn't know they could talk so much and sing so many diverent songs in five days. To them, Esma and Lourens, a special word of thanks.
